Session 1: Being a Good Citizen

LESSON OBJECTIVES: 

Students will read "Grace for President" by Kelly DiPucchio and "Helping to Make Smiles" by Wonders Reading Program.

Students will summarize the characters, setting and point of views of stories using details from the stories. 

Students will analyze elements in several stories.  

Students will complete sentences with the correct vocabulary word.

Students will identify words that have a the blended vowel sounds spelled in ou and ow. 

Students will describe why a text is considered realistic.

Students will describe elements of realistic fiction.   

Students will identify the new meaning of words when the suffixes -ly, -ful and -less are added to the word.

Students will revise a paragraph so it is longer with more details.

Students will analyze a story.

Session 2: Cooperation Works!

LESSON OBJECTIVES: 

Students will read "Once Upon a Baby Brother" by Sarah Sullivan and "Bully Free Zone" by Wonders Reading Program.

Students will summarize the characters, setting and point of views of stories using details from the stories. 

Students will analyze elements in several stories.  

Students will complete sentences with the correct vocabulary word.

Students will identify words that have a the blended vowel sounds spelled in oy and oi.

Students will describe why a text is considered fiction.

Students will describe elements of fiction.

Students will describe the meaning of word that is an idiom within a sentence.

Students will revise a paragraph so it is longer with more details.

Students will analyze a story.

 

Session 3: Our Heroes

LESSON OBJECTIVES: 

Students will read "Brave Bessie" by Eric Velasquez and "The Legend of Kate Shelley" by Wonders Reading Program

Students will summarize in sequential what happens in order using first, next, then and last in several stories. 

Students will analyze elements in fiction and nonfictional texts. 

Students will complete sentences with the correct vocabulary word.

Students will identify words with the sound of oo spelled with oo, u_e, u, ue and ui.

Students will identify two words that are synonyms within a sentence.

Students will revise a paragraph so it is longer with more details. 

Students will analyze a paragraph. 

Session 4: Preserving Our Earth

LESSON OBJECTIVES: 

Students will read "The Woodcutter's Gift" by Lupe Ruiz-Flores and "Earth's Resources" by Wonders Reading Program.

Students will identify the problem, steps to solution and solution of several stories.

Students will analyze elements in fiction and nonfiction texts.

Students will complete sentences with the correct vocabulary word.

Students will identify words with the sound of aw spelled with a, aw, au, augh, ai and ough.

Students will describe the meaning of homophones within sentences. 

Students will revise a paragraph so it is longer with more details. 

Students will analyze a paragraph. 

Session 5: Time for Kids

LESSON OBJECTIVES: 

Students will read Setting the Rules and American Symbols by Time For Kids.

Students will analyze cause and effect within nonfictional texts.

Students will complete sentences with the correct vocabulary word.

Students will identify words with the sound of ea, ou, and y.

Students will use words within a sentence to determine the meaning of a multimeaning word.

Students will revise a paragraph so it is longer with more details.

Students will analyze a paragraph.
