Session 1: Cooperation

LESSON OBJECTIVES: 

Students will read "Roadrunner's Dance" by Rudolfo Anaya and "Deltona is Going Batty".

Students will summarize important details in both stories.

Students will complete sentences with the correct vocabulary word.

Students will analyze elements of a folktale.

Students will identify antonyms within sentences and determine the meaning of that word from the text. 

Students will identify the correct long i or long u word that belongs in a sentence.

Students will determine the correct spelling of plural nouns.

Students will revise a paragraph so it is longer with more details. 

Session 2: Immigration

LESSON OBJECTIVES: 

Students will read "The Castle on Hester Street" by Linda Heller and "Next Stop, America" by Wonders Reading Program.

Students will summarize important details in "The Castle on Hester Street".

Students will complete sentences with the correct vocabulary word.

Students will analyze information from a historical fiction.

Students will use context clues to determine the meaning of a simile. 

Students will identify the correct long e word that belongs in a sentence.

Students will write the correct spelling of a word that has an inflectional ending in a sentence.

Students will revise a paragraph so it is longer with more details. 

 

Session 3: Government

LESSON OBJECTIVES: 

Students will read "Vote" by Eileen Christelow and "A Plan for the People" by Wonders Reading Program.

Students will summarize important details and the authors point of view in several stories.

Students will complete sentences with the correct vocabulary word.

Students will use analyze an expository text. 

Students will identify the correct prefix in a word.

Students will identify the silent letter in a word.

Students will determine if a word is singular or possessive. 

Students will revise a paragraph so it is longer with more details. 

Session 4: Survival

LESSON OBJECTIVES: 

Students will read "Whooping Cranes in Danger" by Susan E. Goodman and "Help the Manatees" by Wonders Reading Program.

Students will summarize important details and the authors point of view in several stories.

Students will complete sentences with the correct vocabulary word.

Students will identify the suffix in a word then write a sentence using that word. 

Students will identify two things being compared in a metaphor.

Students will identify words with two closed syllables.

Students will revise a paragraph so it is longer with more details. 

Session 5: Figure It Out

LESSON OBJECTIVES: 

Students will read "The Inventor Thinks Up Helicopters" by Patricia Hubbell and "Montgolfier Brother's Hot Air Balloon" by J. Patrick Lewis

Students will analyze elements in poetry

Students will place words in sentences to make paragraphs make sense.

Students will identify words with a diagraph and place that work in a sentence so the sentence makes sense.

Students will revise a paragraph so it is longer with more details.
