Session 1: Stroytime

LESSON OBJECTIVES: 

Students will read "Wolf" by Becky Bloom and "Jennie and the Wolf".

Students will summarize important details in both stories.

Students will complete sentences with the correct vocabulary word.

Students will describe character traits of the main character in a story. 

Students will analyze information from a fantasy.

Students will identify synonyms within sentences and determine the meaning of that word from the text. 

Students will identify the correct short a, i word that belongs in a sentence.

Students will revise a paragraph so it is longer with more details. 

Session 2: Traditions

LESSON OBJECTIVES: 

Students will read "Yoon and the Jade Bracelet" by Helen Recorvits and "Family Traditions" by Wonders Reading Program.

Students will summarize important details in "Yoon and the Jade Bracelet".

Students will identify the characters, setting and plot sequencing of a story. 

Students will analyze information from a realistic fiction.

Students will use context clues to determine the meaning of a word in a sentence. 

Students will identify the correct word to finish a sentence based on a vowel sound.

Students will revise a paragraph so it is longer with more details. 

Students will analyze a paragraph. 

 

Session 3: Communities

LESSON OBJECTIVES: 

Students will read "Gary the Dreamer" by Gary Soto and "Sharing Polkas and Pitas" by Wonders Reading Program.

Students will summarize important details in "Gary the Dreamer".

Students will complete sentences with the correct vocabulary word.

Students will identify the beginning, middle and end of a story's plot.

Students will use analyze an autobiography. 

Students will identify a compound word in a sentence then write the meaning of that word.

Students will identify words with the long vowel sound and sneaky e, -ed and -ing endings. 

Students will revise a paragraph so it is longer with more details. 

Students will analyze a paragraph. 

Session 4: Inventions

LESSON OBJECTIVES: 

Students will read "All Aboard! Elijah McCoy's Steam Engine" by Monica Kulling and "Lighting the World" by Wonders Reading Program.

Students will analyze the cause and effect details within several stories.

Students will complete a science experiment to show the cause and effects of static electricity. 

Students will complete sentences with the correct vocabulary word.

Students will analyze a biography.

Students will identify two things being compared in a metaphor.

Students will identify words with the long a sound found within several sentences. 

Students will identify plural nouns and words with the -s, -es endings found within several sentences. 

Students will revise a paragraph so it is longer with more details. 

Students will analyze a paragraph. 

Session 5: Time For Kids

LESSON OBJECTIVES: 

Students will read "A Mountain of History" by Time For Kids and "A Landmark Street" by Wonders Reading Program.

Students will describe what makes a text an expository text.  

Students will analyze elements in the stories

Students will place the correct word in a sentence to make a paragraph make sense. 

Students will use context clues to determine the meaning of a sentence. 

Students will identify words with the long o sounds.

Students will create compound words. 

Students will revise a paragraph so it is longer with more details.
