LESSON OBJECTIVES:
Students will read "Little Rabbit" an Indian Folktale written by Gerald McDermott and "Animals Go Fast" by Wonders Reading Program.
Students will practice sequencing the beginning, middle and end of a plot using sequencing words.
Students will connect real like animal examples to the text of Little Rabbit.
Students will compare and contrast how fast some animals can move.
Students will analyze how fast some animals can move.
Students will identify words with the long a sound in words spelled with the long ai sound; a, ai and ay.
Session 2: Animal Teams
LESSON OBJECTIVES:
Students will read "Animal Teams" by Rachel Mann, and "Busy As a Bee" by Wonders Reading Program.
Students will identify the main idea and three supporting details in Animal Teams.
Students will write an answer to an opinion question using a sentence starter.
Students will respond to the Animal Teams story by making a personal connection.
Students will identify words with the ur sound in words spelled with ir, ur and or.
Students will identify cause and effect within a story.
Students will analyze how the -er ending changes the meaning of a word.
Students will identify the caption with the correct image.
Session 3: In the Wild
LESSON OBJECTIVES:
Students will read "Vulture View" by April Pulley Sayre, and "When It's Snowing" by Aileen Fisher.
Students will identify the main idea and two supporting details in reading passages.
Students will analyze and answer a question about Vulture Views using a sentence starter.
Students will identify an animal, research what it eats, how it gets it's food then write about the animal in a sentence.
Students will identify words with the phonemic spelling of long o: o, oa, ow, oe
Students will place high-frequency words in the correct sentences so the sentence makes sense.
Students will practice writing words with open syllables.
Students will place the correct sensory word in a sentence.
Students will identify main ideas and key details.
Session 4: Insects!
LESSON OBJECTIVES:
Students will read "Hi! Fly Guy" by Tedd Arnold and "Meet the Insects" by Wonders Reading Program.
Students will answer a question using a sentence starter.
Students will identify words with the phonemic spelling of long i: i, y, igh and ie.
Students will place high-frequency words in the correct sentences so the sentence makes sense.
Students will practice writing sentences.
Students will identify different character's point of view in a story using clues found in the story.
Students will use context clues to find the meaning of a word.

Students will use a heading to determine what a nonfictional text is about.
Session 5: Time For Kids
LESSON OBJECTIVES:
Students will read "Koko and Penny" and "Save Our Bees" by Wonders Reading Program.
Students will describe why a story would be considered nonfiction.
Students will summarize and respond to the texts.
Students will identify words with the long e sound in words with the phonemic spelling of y and ey.
Students will place high-frequency words in the correct sentences so the sentence makes sense.
